high functioning PTSD
Hey ,
PTSD and trauma drains your energy, focus, and exhausts your adrenals since you’re constantly in fight or flight mode…
BUT…
You can still be a high functioning person with PTSD…
That being said…
EVEN IF you’re a “high functioning” person with PTSD…
You’re NOT EVEN CLOSE to your highest potential!
I know because I lived it firsthand…
I used to PUSH myself so hard just to get through each day with my PTSD…and I would get a LOT of shit done.
Everyday my 4:30 AM alarm would go off…
I woke up terrified…cortisol levels through the roof…but I dragged my ass out of bed anyways.
I’d then kill myself in the gym…
Pushing myself as HARD as I could as a way to cope with my insane levels of stress…
After the gym I got straight to work…no downtime…
I spent the rest of my day trying to get my own marketing business off the ground…
Calling on business owners, in person consultations, sales, facing fears head on…I’d even have panic attacks in my car before in person sales presentations, but I’d still push through and get it done.
I was able to operate at pretty high levels…
And I actually built a fairly successful business doing this…was making 6 figures within a few months of starting.
But man…
I was EXHAUSTED and burning out fast.
AND on top of that I KNEW that I was only operating at a FRACTION of my potential…
I’d always say:
“I feel like I’m operating at 10% of my potential”
I felt like I could do 10X or even 100X more than what I was currently doing…because I was so freaking stressed.
Now…
It wasn’t all doom and gloom…
After all…I had a fairly successful business and I could fall asleep feeling proud of myself for putting in all that work.
BUT I soon found that it was unsustainable.
Since I never focused on my past trauma…since I just “pushed through” hoping it would just go away on it’s own….it just piled up in my long term memory.
And I crashed….and broke.
NOT because of the amount of work I was putting in…but because of the unprocessed trauma in my past. (an important distinction)
That’s when I fell into a dark stage of my life….
I’d panic at every little thing…
I could hardly have a conversation without feeling the need to break down in tears.
If I could go back in time, I would have addressed the trauma WAY sooner…
I would still push myself to better myself in my life…build my business…and work out…
BUT I’d use some of that aggressive, go-getter, energy to focus my mind on HEALING the dark parts of my soul…
Because I would have avoided my trauma from stacking and compounding until I completely broke.
But you know what?
I grateful for the hard times…
Why?
Because they were actually GOOD times…because they got me to CHANGE.
Dark moments in life are beautiful because YOU have the opportunity to MAKE THEM inflection points where EVERYTHING changes.
Pain sucks…but it can be good….very good.
And now that I’m healed?
I am SO much happier AND way more productive…
And my body is no longer stressed to the Nth degree.
Right now I’m writing this on a Saturday…I woke up at 5AM with my nephew (we had a sleepover), played outside, wrestled with him, and then jumped into a 13 hour workday.
I NEVER would have been able to have a day like this when I was struggling…not even close.
I’m tired, but feel amazing…
Because I was able to push myself, my relationships, AND my life’s mission forward.
This is what I always wanted…
To live a life of peace, purpose, AND massive productivity.
Because I want to do MORE in this life…
And I believe YOU are meant for MORE in this life.
You are NOT just meant to SUFFER and then DIE.
YOU are here for a REASON.
You’ve been through enough…time to take care of yourself so you can take care of others at the highest level and achieve YOUR mission.
So…
Will you USE your pain as an inflection point for CHANGE?
And become all you were meant to be?
I hope so…
Because you deserve and are worthy of healing…
And the life you want?
It’s waiting…
On the other side of a lot of hard work and commitment, but it IS there, IF you’re willing to do what it takes to get it.
