toxic love
Hey ,
I had a client who kept ending up in abusive relationships.
She was smart…successful…self-aware.
BUT…
She couldn't figure out WHY she kept accepting people who treated her like garbage.
One night, she had a vision that changed everything…
She was doing some independent parts work that I teach to all my clients…and went straight to the source, straight to the part of her, that was causing her to get into and stay in abusive toxic relationships…
She got in contact with this part…
And imagined what it looked like…
It was completely emaciated…literally starving to death and curled up in the corner of a room.
That starving child was a part of herself that had been emotionally neglected for so long she was willing to accept ANYTHING to survive.
Here's the brutal truth for most people who allow toxic people in their lives:
You're accepting toxic relationships and harmful treatment because parts of YOU are emotionally STARVING TO DEATH.
Think about it...
If you were physically starving…
I mean truly on the brink of death from hunger…
What would you do to get food?
Anything!
You'd eat bugs!
Raw meat!
ANYTHING.
That's EXACTLY what's happening with your emotionally starved parts.
They're in so much pain that they'll do ANYTHING to get their needs met.
This isn't your fault…
Their intent isn't negative….
They just want to feel connection, to be seen, to be valued.
But in getting those needs met, they'll sacrifice everything else…your safety, your dignity, your wellbeing….
Because they're operating with a one-track mind:
"I will do ANYTHING to get this emotional nourishment. And if I get this, then I'm okay... even if I'm not really okay."
My client realized she had severely underestimated the degree of emotional neglect she'd experienced as a child.
It made perfect sense why she perked up instantly whenever someone gave her even the smallest crumb of connection.
And those parts would manipulate her into accepting absolutely terrible treatment just to get those crumbs.
Here's what's really important to understand:
This part is experiencing grief 24/7 UNTIL you allow that to come up and be processed and released.
The first step is recognizing just how severe your emotional hunger really is.
The second step is grieving the fact that these needs weren't met when they should have been.
And the third step is learning how to meet these needs in healthy ways that don't require you to sacrifice your wellbeing.
Let me be clear:
If you’re stuck in a pattern of seeking love and connection from toxic people?
It isn't your fault.
You developed it as a survival mechanism in an environment where your needs weren't being met.
But continuing this pattern IS your responsibility to change.
Because those parts of you that are starving?
They deserve to be fed properly.
Not with the scraps from toxic people, but with genuine nourishment that helps them thrive.
And guess what?
YOU can provide that nourishment they need.
So often we think we need external nourishment…
When in reality?
We just need to start acknowledging and giving it to ourselves.
